my favorite metal band is a progressive metal band named dream theater. greatest drummer of all time, amazing vocalist, one of the greatest guitarists and bassists. whats not to like??
-The first real metal band I listened to was Metallica. I don't really consider Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin metal. They don't sound metal, even though they're both credited as founders. -My favorite metalcore/melodic metal bands are Killswitch Engage, All That Remains, and Trivium (they count as metalcore). I'd put As I Lay Dying but they're so depressing. Lamb of God too. -My favorite thrashers are (obviously) Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Machine Head. -Progressive Metal is obviously Dream Theater. They're all perfect musicians. They've had two perfect drummers. Their songs are masterpieces. -For alternative metal, Disturbed is my favorite, and only one.
On a side note, I'm going to Mayhem in three weeks, and I'm PUMPED. Not a fan of Godsmack or In Flames, but it's gonna be a good show.
Heavy Metal - Iron Maiden; my personal favorite band of all time. as i have stated many times before, they have only a handful of band songs over the course of 15 albums (at least imo). they have stayed true to their heavy metal style since the beginning (although they have changed, but every band is subject to change). not to mention that their new songs are just as good as the old ones that made them famous.
Thrash Metal - Megadeth unlike Iron Maiden, they have changed their style through the years, but it was a good change (for the most part). i highly respect Dave Mustaine because he tells people exactly what he thinks of them and doesnt hold anything back, which is one of the reasons why the Megadeth lineup has changed so much through the years. they continue to put out pure thrash albums even in resent years and they keep getting better and better, which has earned them third place among my favorite bands.
Power Metal - Gamma Ray my second favorite band. they are to date the only band that even comes close to the skill of Iron Maiden. they too have kept their power metal style ever since the foundation of them in 1988. their current line up is like a dream team that no one else couldve ever dreamt of. people keep trying to say that they rip off their inspirations. this statement is false. they honor their inspirations and add their own twist to make songs that a truly unique
Black Metal - Venom the founders of black metal. they are also one of the pioneers of thrash metal. although they have some satanic themes they are still a great band. they deserve every bit of fame that they have and more

Iron Maiden - So eeeevill, great Songs and Concerts, and Bruce Dickinson is the best male Metal Singer ever.
Edguy - Great melodious epic Sound with good song topics and nice ballads.
Blind Guardian - Incredible good Album: Nightfall in Middle-Earth, very epic Songs
Nightwish - Epic Songs, song by a male and a female Singer. I like both Tarja and Anette.
Off course there are more great metal bands, like Metallica, Slayer, Sonata Arctica, Epica or Bon Jovi (Yes, Bon Jovi WERE a Metal Bnad in their early days)
