I'm creating this thread to discuss the international involvement in the so-called "crisis" in Haiti. Am I the only one who believes that Haiti should solve its own problems? Haiti contributes virtually nothing to the US economy or the economies of the other global superpowers. Why should we be trying to solve their problems when we have those of our own? I say that we let them deal with their own problems. Our involvement there isn't going to help them contribute to the world and it's only digging us deeper into the recession.
I agree. We have our own poor and homeless. And no one but a scant few missionaries ever really cared about Haiti until just recently. Plus they're better off, because now that there's less people, there's more food per person, and less people with diseases romping about! America needs to quit sticking its ugly-ass nose in everyone else's buisness.

You sir are entirely correct. I wish more people would share this view.
Thanks, it's not a very common standpoint because most people want others to believe that they are genuinely interested in the problems of global countries, but deep down, they don't really care. Why should they? They have their own problems which is understandable and it's hardly selfish to care more about yourself than some starving African boy that you'll never meet in your life.
Phycology whould say that most people want to help because they feel they are doing somthing, they get reputation for it (or not doing it..., and people have simpathy for dammaged things. The earthquak had the effect of a kid falling down and scraping its leg, it cries and people rush to help it. But in this case the bandaid is millions going into repair...
We need to fix our own problems before we go throwing money and resources at other countries. I can understand sending some resources to their aid like a spare naval hospital ship and some troops to aid in search and rescue (and just search and rescue), though we really need to drastically cut foreign aid. People are sufforing and starving in America and they need to come first. We have no right to go around fixing other countries problems until we have fixed our own, especially some countries that never asked for our help and never wanted it.
In such a disaster I'm glad America is helping. While we do have problems of our own we shouldn't ignore such an event. We need to show that we are compassionate and will help whenever possible. The last thing we need to do is show that we're cold hearted self-centered folk.
Are you guys joking me? This crisis is not about economics its HUMANITARIAN AID.
How can you not tremble at the thought of hundreds of thousands dead and equate our problems with such misery? Our homeless live better than their average citizen.
How can you expect poor and devastated people to help Americans?
The US spends has spent 1 trillion on war, peaking $1 billion a day, and 100 million dollars for SAVING lives is too much?

You are correct. We should help them since its our Christian duty to do so.

But this I do have to kind of agree on. America itself is a project that needs a lot of time of repair.

No, its our humanitarian duty to do so.
Its just disgusting to see Americans getting paid $30 an hour to complain about their problems and say that Haitians under a corrupt government earning $0.25 an hour should fix their own problems after a huge earthquake hits 1/3 of the population.

This kind of thinking is disgusting.
Frankly i wish haiti would fall off the earth we have given them well over 1BILLION dollars even before all of this through 2004-2008 we gave them i think it was 800million dollars (i cant quite remember its been a while since i saw the article) and they did nothing to better them selves but build a few schools and when i say few i mean a FEW as of now all we are doing is getting there corrupt leaders richer and frankly haiti was a slum before and its a slum now id much rather see our money going to homeless war vets or vets with PTSD (post dramatic stress disorder) than help them but im glad you feel like your helping when you txt a number and give 10$ your a real saint i mean we gave them what 115million just from obama i really think thats more then the country is worth + what ever the media suckerd you into giving them to make you feel important so frankly no it is not our duty and if im not mistaken isnt a french branch? let the french help them not out bankrupt selves...if only the media had made it cool to help katrina victims so frankly friend or foe? i say money sucking leech
