I'm creating this thread to discuss the international involvement in the so-called "crisis" in Haiti. Am I the only one who believes that Haiti should solve its own problems? Haiti contributes virtually nothing to the US economy or the economies of the other global superpowers. Why should we be trying to solve their problems when we have those of our own? I say that we let them deal with their own problems. Our involvement there isn't going to help them contribute to the world and it's only digging us deeper into the recession.
Haiti cannot help itself. It was taken advantage of and it's economy was not developed and is devastated. It has constant violence, and even it's leaders are struck by poverty. Yes, we have plenty of our own problems that need to be addressed, but we have made it our own responsibility by constantly 'intervening' in places where we are not needed. It's not so much about helping the government, as you guys are making it out to be, but about helping the people, who live in conditions unimaginable to the average American.
Obviously their quality of living varies greatly from ours. That is NOT OUR PROBLEM. Just because they are human beings doesn't make them our responsibility and honestly they shouldn't exist. We're just feeding an ever burning fire of poverty and corruption by giving them the means to exist. If they can't exist alone, they're a parasite to the American economy and we can't afford that, especially not right now.
Rinjo, wouldn't, then, helping things in America be doing similar things? Aren't America's poor parasitic? Aren't the people hurting due to the economy not our problem? It isn't our (those that are better off) fault they were born into that and that they were fired and more.
Way to make it sound like a bad thing. There's nothing to be forced, this is just simple human logic and everyone else who is disagreeing and saying that we are selfish are just those who are too cowardly to actually stand up to their true feelings because they don't want to see themselves as evil or cold-hearted.
It have been wasted on their people by global powers? Doubtfully. How could they and why would they? They're probably happy about the earthquake; who cares about the dead when people are paying attention to us?!
It's a good thing we're all maturely expressing our views.
Sorry your speech made me dam speechless.
Might want to look at the real world and learn some science if you think survival of the fittest applies to society. Its a evolutionary term having to do with the biological evolution and has no relevance to social evolution unless you consider Lamarckism to be true -- though that has been wholly debunked. The last guy to take such a notion serious was Herbert Spencer, who was wrong on so many levels.
And no Haitians aren't happy about 200,000 of their people dying, about 1/3 of their people being affected in one way or the other, and having 12,000 foreign troops with guns in their land.
You might actually want to watch some videos of the Haitian reality before claiming that they are happy about the Earthquake.
Why is America as a nation so important in this discussion? Humans are humans.
Its as if that Haiti doesn't matter just because its not in our borders. It would make all the difference to you whether Haiti was part of the US's borders or not. The difference for you guys would be "OMG HUGE EARTHQUAKE KILLING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS IN AMERICA" vs "Oh sucks for those Haitians. we got our own problems though".
Are you just racist pricks or overly patriotic douchebags?
I mean, goddamn, I know they have financial problems, but this isn't about that. This is about the 200,000 people DYING. For no reason.
Families have been torn apart, people it's a tragedy. I don't give a flying fuck about the financial aspects, a country that goes through a disaster of this caliber deserves help.
