In all religions parents and other adults make kids prey, go to church, and follow many other religious things they do. They tell kids many scary and untrue things that the kids can not understand. Is this considered forcing and brain washing the kids into the religion. Here is a video of a "Jesus camp". So do you think kids have a free will when it comes to religion, or are they being brain washed?
Sorry about all these posts but I keep finding something that makes me want to write something. I was not forced to go to church wan I was little. I chose to for about a month. Some things were okay but others got to me. Since my Dad is atheist and my Mom, agnostic, I was never forced onto a religion. But the kid I was talking about earlier was. He does not like to go to church even though his parents make him. He might not have been so stubborn and wrong if he was talking to the episcopalian church downtown or some lutheran church.
Also, what's up with all of these good saints? Like, Santa Clause etc, The children recieve presents : they think religion is good, and they think they should follow it to get more presents.
Kids are quite definitely brain-washed into religion - or at least cultured into it. If you aren't brought up with religion then you are far less likely to be susceptible to it's lies. But if you grow up with religious parents or in a religious area then you are gradually exposed to the lies and so start to think they're true - and that is how most people catch religion (which is akin to Herpes).
saying they are brain washed into a religion is like saying they are brain washed into being human
You have a point there, but you have to ask yourself, what exactly is considered "being human"? Are we in a position where we can be sure? Is it even for us to say?

Think first about what it's like in their shoes. Our parents (or society and the media) brought us up desiring material things, and I would like to think that most of us have broken free from that desire. In their position, what their parents or whatever teaches them is true in their eyes. They just haven't questioned any of it yet.
Hah, Ivan, do you know what brainwashing is? Brainwashing is ALWAYS against the will of the person in question. and not like "hey i can BRAINWASH you into a super human" -Oh cool, i want that
I originally was taken to church mostly because my parents wouldn't leave me by myself, but as the years have gone by my Christian faith became solid. I never once have been forced to go to church. In fact I myself am such a believer in Jesus that I once before have made sure my family got up and went to church. My life is now Christ centered.

Best first quote ever :0 yeah I was atheist for a while but then I was like "I'm doing this to make myself feel free", only I didn't feel free so I came crying back. Good choice.

No. Atheism gives you a choice. You could start to belive in god if you want, or be a buddhist or a shintoist or whatever you feel it's the most right thing; even not beliving. And you can do it when you (and nobody else) feel it is right. No one will enforce anything on you.

If you do start to believe in God then you aren't an atheist anymore. The Catholic Church doesn't make you believe in God, and reason we show concern for a person on the edge is simply for their salvation. We at Catholic headquarters care *cheesy smile*.
