This is a discussion thread about Marijuana, Cannabis, Weed, Dank, 420, Pot. It is currently legal in a few states, though they are regulating the usage of it.
contrary to popular belief, weed doesnt cause cancer, it's like alcohol, impairs your motor skills. that's about it.
I figure you young kids will be eventually come into contact with it once you hit your college/high school years, and it would be good to dispel some wrong and wayward thinking brought on by the government.

Weed is legal in a couple of states, cali, colorado. up in Canada, Vancouver has legalized weed. Amsterdam too.
It's a great experience really, not advocating you should try it, since it is also quite the expensive plant (prices are artificially inflated in legalized areas also for government control purposes)
As a result, someone who smokes marijuana every day may be functioning at a suboptimal intellectual level all of the time.

News flash, all drugs affect the brain, including tobacco and alcohol.

Alright, they are pointing out specific areas of the brain that are effected by marijuana. Do they explain specifically how each area is effected? Does the site have the balls enough to explain that all side effects from marijuana are short term? Probably not, because they would have to admit that marijuana won't harm you in the long run through casual use, and why would they do that?! They make money off keeping people ignorant!

I think I can answer this, more or less. Marijuana (and other drugs) affect the three processes of the brain, what you are sensing, what the brain is doing to tell the body what to do, and the action that proceeds it. Drugs will affect the nerves of all three. The eyes of the sensory input will have distorted and hallucinatory vision; the ears will send information to the brain as sound messages that may or may not have been true. Coordination, as the quoted post said, would be sharply irrational.

That reminds me of one time when I had a physical, and the doctor was trying to tell me the dangers of smoking weed, and her whole speech was, "you know those older guys, who walk around all the time, and they're all like 'whoa dude!' and they have long hair and stuff? Those people are like that because they smoked too much weed."

that is quite true. I really don't like people who say, oh I'm so smart when Im high, truth be told you'll probably be good at somethings when you are high, but being smart is definitely not one of them

No, not really I've seen people who smoked everyday, and they have no ill side effects to their brain but that is really improbably because that would be extremely expensive.
But yea, one of my cousin's friends has smoked everyday from what I can tell when he graduated with a 3.7 from college with a bach in econ I think.

well I'll agree to that. sometimes I see purple spots, and once I most def saw the face of stalin on a chocolate chip cookie though my friend ate it cause he was hungry as balls.
your ears sometimes buzz, and people seem really distant, and when you've calmed down a little everything sounds really loud.
coordination is a bit... distorted since your muscles are extremely relaxed I can attest to that.

Meh, I have no problems with marijuana as a drug, really. Potheads are funny, don't care about propaganda and whatnot, I've seen the research and know that pot is safe, blah, blah.
BUT I've got a thing against smoking altogether. Joints, ciggies, whatever, I won't ever do the stuff because my dad died from lung cancer shortly after I was born. He was and had been a smoker for quite a few years. And I know that joints don't have the chemicals and additives and cancer agents in them, but I took a vow when I learned about how he died to never EVER touch those kinds of things, to make sure I wouldn't end up how he did. And I didn't know about weed back then, but when I learned about it, I added that to my vow.

I was like trying to look for a box of cookies one time because for some reason I just wanted to fill my stomach with food. I ended up staying in the closet for about 30 minutes because I thought the pepsi symbol was swirling and trying to tell me something. Then I tripped over a pan and fell, but it really didnt hurt. Though I was thinking about how pepsi could use its symbol and put like subliminal messages in it to make people buy it more. that was quite recent. I remember watching winnie the pooh after that. and asking myself. Why do children like to watch a fat gluttonous bear dance around and eat honey? the world may never know.
don't mean to spoil the party but after you have pot the rest of your life will screw up my dad once had a tenant who smoked weed and the guy was for lack of a better word a idiot he was really screwed up so weed may be fun but it screws up peoples personalitys so stay in school kids and don't do drugs and alchol
Sirfrank, please do not pose your opinions off as facts. In no way shape or form does marijuana affect the "hard wiring" in your brain. Just, so we can all get on the same page, here is a list of all the REAL side effects of marijuana from a credible, trusted source. Unfortunately, it won't matter if I post the link because you have to have authorization to view it. (I LOVE COLLEGE IDs!)
Short Term Side Effects:
Impaired memory and motor skills Distortion in perception, particularly vision (because it relaxes your cornea) Increased heart rate
Long Term Side Effects: I only see 3 out the 75 I just flipped through that claim in credible long term side effects. That is some respiratory problems.
But the fact is, it does not HAVE to be inhaled. It can be ingested.
The point is this, marijuana is illegal in this country. It should not be taken in any form unless otherwise guided by your medical doctor in the state that allows it.
Now, my OTHER point, marijuana is a wonder drug. It is practically the only thing on the market that can help with pain, nausea, anxiety, and rage without any real negative side effects. It will not "make you stupid," nor does it affect your long-term memory.

wouldn't say there is an impaired memory, I mean most of the time people remember stuff while they are high. It is more of when you are calming down from the high and you do stuff. there really is no blackout periods like alcohol which is a depressant.

yea, thats what I was thinking, the problem is there was once a time when politicians banned alcohol (the prohibition) many mobsters and gangsters made a fortune off of that creating moonshine and ect. (al capone)
and smoking was passed off as healthy, but currently weed hasn't garnered a greater following yet, because of government health programs teaching young children that All drugs will kill you and stuff, although skewed in nature it does prevent some children from ever trying smoking or alcohol because it is indoctrinated into their skulls, while others (like myself) goto college and get wasted on saturday and friday nights. I'm not saying D.A.R.E. is bad or anything, more like, they should teach the truth and allow kids to make the right decisions about their life so many of them won't have a skewed perception of drugs and alcohol.
