What do you think about this? I feel that it should not be built at ground zero because I find that extremely disrespectful to the families and victims of that infamous day.

There is always that risk but of course there's equally the chance that it will show certain bigoted parties that Muslim =/= extremist and that most Muslims go about worshipping in peace.

@Frank your exactly right that's why its stupid not to let them build it. Freedom of religion is just another reason.

Ok, lets make this clear - its private property, I am a white Southerner, Christian , and I really could care less, God says love your neighbor, - God also says that Turn the cheek to people insulting you. Its not an insult, and they are our neighbors, enjoy and love them, the extremists that attacked should not define the whole, I mean there are extremist Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, and extremists of every order, as previously stated, its hypocrisy to tell someone what they can and can not do on their private property. Its like telling someone you can own the land , but not to do as you wish.

This is a matter squishy liberals turn the cheek at and say "That problem will fix itself". I think that the Strong Arm of the Law - THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES will work everything out-

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Protection of Public Property Act
June 1, 1948, ch. 359, 62 Stat. 281 (40 U.S.C. 318 et seq.)
Short title, see 40 U.S.C. 318 note
Have fun researching...

The top part of that is in the Bill of Rights, the bottom portion is a lovely 1948 law, that is still in effect.

This isn't a matter of politics its a matter of decency. If the Muslims really want to prove they are a religion of peace they will move it elsewhere. I agree that politically they have the right to. Politically Bush had the right to start war with Iraqi terrorists but you people have a problem with that. Food for thought.

Yazoo they can build mosques here but it is on the site of where thousands of people died at the hands of... wait for it.... muslims!

No - they died at the hands of EXTREMISTS/FUNDAMENTALISTS. Almost every Muslim you ask would disown those who kill innocents in the name of Allah. Talking of killing innocents in the name of God - remember the CHRISTIAN dude who blew up the abortion clinic? Killing quite a few people inside it? No? I wonder why... It's quite notable but you choose to ignore it.

First, its two blocks away. Second, Muslims were killed two.

If we don't allow them to build this, then the terrorist won. We have to show them that we are more tolerant of other religions than said terrorist. The builders are doing it as a sign of respect, not as a sign of hatred. (By "it" I am referring to building it as close as possible as well as the date specified)

Lord, it's a sad day when I agree with everything you said in a post but I suppose the day is upon us know.

The attacks on September 11, 2001 were not an attack on America but an attack on western values; one of which is the freedom of religion. If we stop the building of the mosque we lose.

Erm, yeah it actually was. Sure they attacked American soil but they still wanted to collapse the systems of Western Values and freedoms America and other countries represent (note various attacks on democratic European countries).

There were a number of motives, not just one motive for terrorist actions against America. A fatawe (spelling?) against America was done back in 1998 from Bin Laden. Basically stating a number of reasons why they were going to attack us TIL WE ALL PERISH! MUHAHAHAHA

Western values is one reason, yes. Another is having any sort of relations with Israel.
