What do you think about this? I feel that it should not be built at ground zero because I find that extremely disrespectful to the families and victims of that infamous day.
i smell something smoking, it Freakenstein!!! Awesome flaming. You just proved that you are intolerant of religion so why is this thread appealing to you?
Hahaha...I'm not intolerant of religion. Look. Why are most Americans today having a chip on their shoulder towards Muslims anyway? Because their extremists attacked us. It was the first foreign attack on American soil since the War of 1812. Okay. That's one attack. Now count up how many attacks Christianity has done to other countries in the name of their god. If you have been counting as much as me, you would also have a list in your hand.
The second form of this argument. The contractors of that Mosque are entitled to that property. It is not federally owned, so they own it. They can build there, and they can do whatever they want with that land, within federal and state law.
What is hindering this process are the Christian and Patriot protests. They are living in a Moon-and-Star scare that was given because of Uncle Sam's propaganda. America does this.
All im asking is build the mosque anywhere but there. Not that close to where the attacks were. Im not a anti-muslim lunatic, i'm just asking people to build the mosque anywhere elise (is that how you spell it?)
Why? So you can keep your anti-Muslim sentiment? And really, you can't spell else? lol.
It was the first foreign attack on American soil since the War of 1812.
Pearl Harbor?
But it is not as if it is being built literally at ground zero. It is being built close, but that gives no reason that is should not be built. The extremists should not account for every single Muslims, just as the westboro baptist church does not account for all christians.
Pearl Harbor wasn't "American" until the U.S. annexed Hawaii as the 50th state, which was years after WWII. Also it is not soil, since it is a Naval base.

It was still United States military base, which does in fact make it American soil. McCain was born on a hospital ship, but because it was the US Navy's, he is still considered a citizen. Also 2403 United States Navy died that day. That in itself makes it significant enough. Also, here is an analogy my friend put together. Imagine I believe I work for Dominoes. I don't, but I ever so strongly believe it. Dominoes the company will not recognize me and constantly tells the press that I definitely do not work for them, probably because instead of delivering pizzas I burn people's houses down. Regardless of this PR nightmare, Dominoes wants to expand so they decide to build a new pizza joint but OH NO! its right next to some asshole's house that I burnt down. Opportunist demagogues try to stop this expansion with the support of the morally outraged who have instead of using their logical faculties decided to live in fear of Dominoes pizza till the end of their days. The story gets even funnier when my friendly neighborhood arsonist character is enraged by the Government infringement upon the rights of his beloved Dominoes. He is willing to murder in their "defense" even when all they want is to sell pizza in peace.
A. People don't worship Domino's Pizza, do they? B. It's easily provable that you don't work for Domino's C. You're a serial arsonist... You only get to kill yourself in the name of whatever once - it's easier to catch and imprison you before you kill thousands. D. You're damn well making me hungry for pizza.
Now forgive me if this point has already been made. There has been a lot of posts on this topic and I may have missed it as I scanned through all 21 pages.
Are we actually arguing our rights here? It does not matter what church they are building, whether or not it's in good taste, or who it's offending. Last time I checked, this is still America and not allowing anyone to build any church for worship (with proper zoning and permitting of coarse) would be completely against there constitutional rights. I'm personally offended by most church's in general, but is there anything that I can do about that? No! Why? Because that's just another thing that makes this country great. A little something we like to refer to as freedom, whether we like it or not, we still have some freedoms left. And as citizens of this country to revoke the religious rights of any individual or group who are also citizens of this country, would be completely against what we stand for, not to mention the 1st amendment. Freedom for all, not freedom for a selected majority.
wow wow wow. first of all, its a super mosque 13 stories tall, with a swimming pool, and a theater and a library. second its not far away, it is within 3 blocks of ground zero. third, why build it there. it seems as though there are alterior motives for its proximity to ground zero. mostly because the church can HAVE a spot thats on city property to build upon with ease. they have purchased private property to build this church, and in manhatten? the mortgage rates are through the roof. not much sense there. besides all of that, if you think that there isn't a redneck group somewhere right now sitting in their basement making pipe bombs, drinking busch, then you don't know how americans do it. remember the civil war. when the south said we do waht we want, and the north said heck no you don't so they killed each other for weeks and weeks. thats america. welcome.
Anyone who argues that the mosque should not be allowed is handing over their most basic freedoms. If this can be stopped, then we will lose our freedoms any time our behavior is deemed offensive or disrespectful.
I don't see a problem with the mosque's location. If they really want to build a mosque, they should be able to.
That said, it isn't a smart thing to do, because the majority of Americans seem to see it as a trophy. I think they should have picked a different site, just because they're bound to run into trouble with this.
set to open 9/11/11?
That part is a really bad idea. Whoever is in charge of this is not handling things right. Or else they see it as a trophy after all. A little odd, since they could have built the mosque there before.
Now I could understand if they built a giant statue honoring Bin Laden in his victory over the "infidels", but what does a church being constructed for the worship of islamic beliefs, a couple of blocks away from ground zero, have anything to do with disrespecting what happened on 9/11. If your argument is that the people who where responsible where of Islamic belief, I still cannot find justification in your irrational protest. These groups of people are obviously extremists of there religion. You know who else was an extremist of there religion. Hitler, who was also a christian. Now if you believe that an extremist expressing themselves through there faith or religion proves that all of there faith or religion feels the same. Then we can all believe that all Christians share the same vision as Hitler or any other murderer or rapist who shares said religion. Obviously this is not true. So how can some many people be so selfish? Do we not stop to think for a second that maybe there where also people of Islamic belief who lost family members or loved ones on 9/11. Who says they don't have the same right to pray and mourn the loses of there loved ones. When America bombed Baghdad in response, do you think we only killed our enemies. But surely America has developed smart bombs that can explode without harming innocent families, woman, or children. The fact is, a lot of people where effected by 9/11, not just the people of non-Islamic beliefs. And you complain about disrespect.
