Why do governments feel the need to make drugs illegal? If anything, it causes a lot more problems than there were before. If they were legalized, there would not be nearly as many violent actions over getting them since the prices would not be nearly as high. There would not been as many people over doing it with drugs, since it would eventually just become a normal thing in day-to-day life.
You think it would all be a sudden wake up and go "Hey, it's all set and fine" ordeal? Not by far.
I simplified it all a little and did not post an exact timeframe. Because, quite frankly, I don't know what they timeline would be. I doubt short of hundreds of man hours going through all the kinks on paper, anyone would.
It'd be a lengthy process that would require time, effort and work. Something which Americans shy away from. If it's not convenient and can't be fixed simply by throwing money at it, they want nothing to do with it.
As for the rest of your post it was, honestly, just opinion.
Wait how does that relate to drugs? you dont need them to survive...but i guess you can get that sense from drugs...thats why theirs clinics
. . .but people can die from withdrawal. People can die of starvation. See where I'm getting at? Same basic principle, though you must do drugs first to become addicted. ------ @Voidy: Who were you addressing. . .?
hmm yes they can die from those symptons but wont they die eventually if they continue? I would rather suffer withdrawal symptons than just use them to my death
People will always do illegal drugs, and some should remain illegal. But who thinks alcohol and cigs should be made illegal? For some reason, people think that alcohol and ciggerettes are worse than cannabis. That is foolish. If we are going to allow alcohol and cancer sticks to be legal, why not legalize weed? Here is the deal, hemp can be made from cannabis! This means paper, fuels, clothing, and so much more can be made for soo much less money! Plus we will save miles of forest. Save the trees. Go green, weave some weed.
We also have almost no funds going into research for marijuana. If we allowed marijuana to be studied, think of all the new medical doors we can open and soo much pain we can prevent!
If we legalized weed, we would not have to watch people die from the drug lords. Also, you say weed is a gateway drug, well no. It's not. The drug lords are the people who get people hooked. They introduce children with weed, then the PUSHER is the one who pushes them into trying harder drugs.
Legalizing weed would also have a strong possability to reduce the amount of daily drinkers. Yes, maybe we will have more accidents on the road that is a result of weed, but the amoutn of drunk accidents will plumet! This means less accidents in general. Drunk drivers are far far far more dangerous than people high on weed. Though driving while intoxicated on ANY drug is a big no no.
SO yeah, there are some downsides. But the positive effects out weigh the negative ones. You got to open up your mind. You can't just go by what everyone else says. I have done my research.
If weed is legalized, you don't have to smoke it. So it shouldn't affect your own life so much.
. . .but people can die from withdrawal. People can die of starvation. See where I'm getting at? Same basic principle, though you must do drugs first to become addicted.
Weed is less addicting than coffee. So you are more likely to have a withdrawal from coffee than weed. The only time you may have a weed withdrawal is if you are one of the miniscule percentages who do smoke multiple joins every single day. This percent, however, is so small that it would be (and is) a crime to make everyone who is a responsible smoker suffer.
I would hate to see my friends suffer social symptons. it would effect kids with schoolwork. Below: a list of negatives side effects: Problems with memory and learning Distorted perception Difficulty with thinking and problem solving Loss of coordination Increased heart rate Anxiety, paranoia and panic attacks
It also may be a good excuse for people to "Relax" or "Chill" and forget problems. But once the "High" Feeling goes away, you still remember all your problems
Problems with memory and learning Distorted perception Difficulty with thinking and problem solving Loss of coordination Increased heart rate Anxiety, paranoia and panic attacks
Well, if you get a buzz from weed, most of the above hardly comes into play. Increased heart rate can be aquired from drinking coffee or soda. God knows energy drinks, that many teens are addicted too, has higher heart rates.
So maybe you do get high, but when the high is over, you do not have any perminant effects. Sure, you have loss of coordination, but not when your high wears off. Sure, short term memory loss, but that effect only lasts while one is intoxicated. Hmmm, these effects are the same as when one gets drunk! The only difference is that these problems are much worse in drunks than people who are high.
Granted, it is STUPID to drive while high and nobody should do that. But if people get high at home, who cares?

Since I think this is directed towards me, I will create a scenario to.
Good news! America decides to legalize weed, but only the weed they grow themselves. They will grow it in the Midwest where large crops will be planted by workers. These jobs will become available as soon as possible! While this is happening, drug lords are still having a booming business while America still waits for their first harvest of weed to come. Just in! America has collected their first season of weed and will begin distributing it! We will sell them lower than the drug lords so you have more of a reason to buy it! Be careful though! Meanwhile, the drug lords hear this then cut their prices below Americas.
CNN reports that America has further lowered the price of weed to meet the drug lords. This business is just hovering above being bankrupt and the government is stating that things look bleak. In other news.... The drug lords then lower the price even further, knowing that they will end the Americans business if the continue, and will come out on top victorious.
Alert! Congress passed a bill giving 3 billion dollars of money to help bailout the weed growing business so that they can further lower the prices! What will become of the national debt now? Drug Lords lower the price to the point just before bankruptcy.
Bad news, America just lost thousand of jobs and money to the failed weed growing business. It will now shut down and weed will be illegal now. Sorry about that everyone! We will try and do better next time, without wasting 3 billion of your taxpayer dollars.
See? I can make scenarios too, but I guess it's all just opinion and nothing like that would ever happen.

My entire point of those last few statements was that everyday things like coffee and McDonald's are more addictive and dangerous than some illegal drugs. It's because of propaganda and stigma that marijuana is still illegal. --------
Booze causes: Liver failure Then death.
Dose and drink are important here. In some cases, like the case of red wine, having a few glasses a day can slow the aging process and protect against heart disease, which is a good thing. Cirrhosis only happens if the person drinks far too heavily.
Why do governments feel the need to make drugs illegal?
To prevent mass distribution of substances which can easily take your life away I guess
If anything, it causes a lot more problems than there were before. If they were legalized, there would not be nearly as many violent actions over getting them since the prices would not be nearly as high.
If it was legal then productivity would be down and drug overdoses would occur more and slowly more and more teenagers and even adolescences would get addicted and think of the damages on babies in their mothers.
There would not been as many people over doing it with drugs, since it would eventually just become a normal thing in day-to-day life.
No? The new opportunity would arise for everyone to 'try' it then many would get addicted since the price is apparently so low.
It would cost too much money to ban those, seeing as there are already thriving business that have thousands of jobs in place to create those drugs. Banning those = - Thousands of lost jobs - Billions of dollars in tax revenue goes bye bye - Riots across the country - Cigarettes and Alcohol have a high addiction rate, so by taking away those some may become depressed and hurt themselves or others around them.
