Okay,so I was reading Time Magazine this morning and found this article about some religious group protesting with signs like,"Go to Hell!"and,"Thank God For Dead Soldiers",as well as others. Then they say they are anti-Semitic,anti Christian, and anti-American.At that point,I was seriously offended. What do you think about it?

WHY ARE THE BILL OF RIGHTS SO VAGUE!?!

That part seems pretty clear to me, if you want to get together with a bunch of other people and speak your mind peacefully you can do so.

Peaceful - untroubled by conflict, agitation, or commotion

I really wouldn't consider the assembly of Fred Phelps to be peaceful by that definition, yet he is still out there.

This falls under the You can't yell fire in a theater, and you can't yell bomb in an airport definition as far as I'm concerned.

Anyone who disagrees?

What harm is he doing giving his A$$H*** opinions? The way I see it they are only hurting there own cause.

I agree, they are only hurting their "cause."

But, you are changing the language. The first amendment is not talking about harm to others in that sense. It says &quoteaceful assembly."

Technically they're being peaceful, they assemble at a distance and then go through with it. It's not like they're screaming and fighting.

There will always be blind people, as long as there's people handing blindfolds for free.

One of the biggest problems with these people is the fact that when you complain about them, it gives them publicity. If they get publicity they might get more followers, and thus more people complaining about them. ARGGH!

They have every right to protest, but if harm is done to Phelps and his family, I would turn a blind eye.

Technically, there are some instances in which people can be hurt by such protests, especially if it is protesting against those that have died in service with their families grieving greatly. Trying to think here.....it was a certain court case in which the notion was in favor of the plaintiff, because the participants didn't really care how the case would end up. It's like if the freedom of religion part was taken out of the first amendment and Congress passed a law that said you cannot worship Gilgamesh. I don't think(?) anyone in the U.S. really cares or worships Gilgamesh, so the motion would carry, but it just wouldn't affect anyone.

Point is, does this movement affect people? It certainly does, but tons more harm than any scrap of good. I can imagine the families are dreaming about--grabbing a random protesters head by the hand and squeezing until it pops, the person still screaming. It's about how I felt about the priest in my grandfather's funeral who kept on saying "he is not dead, but only sleeping; read the bible, and you will know why".

I do not want any laws to pass that prohibits this cult from protesting because these same laws will be used against other protesters who are fighting for a good cause.

I would rather someone harm the family and force them to stop protesting through illegal means than pass a law that effects millions of people just to stop one single cult.

I really do hate saying that, but its' true.

Honestly, I think the best thing to do with Fred Phelps' cult is to kill them with kindness and humor. I mean, this makes me laugh pretty loud every time:

Yeah, that also works. I'm not trying to suggest people should do harm to Phelps as much as I'm trying to express the lack of care if someone did harm him or his family. The pictures you posted are hilarious.

Oh, I understand you alright. I sure would not stop anyone from giving him a good knock on the cranium. Then he might develop that nymphomaniac disorder that comes from a good knock on the cranium.

I can just imagine the next time the Fred Phelps cult turns up at some deceased soldier's funeral... and subsequently getting flash-mobbed by comic protestors.

The poor family!

xD
