He's refering to the increased attention in suicides. And frankly I agree. Why is it that it takes someone famous for people to start paying attention to such a serious issue? Are people so apathetic that they can just shrug off the news of teens committing suicides until the likes of Oprah show up and say "Look I'm famous! Let's talk about suicide". Is our society THAT degenerate? And in a week or so this will be old news and everyone will bury it under the rug, for christ sakes are you seriously asking for a source? A source on something that SHOULD be common knowledge? Or has Famous Joe not gotten around to endorsing it yet?

Yeah was asking of a source since this isn't exactly the first time this has come up as some sort of hot topic.

How nice of you to take this lightly.

Easy there, Charlie. It's just a thread. We need a source in order to actually figure out what the hell is going on. Sure, we can talk about "Crusade on Bullying" in general, but we will skew off on so many levels, it would be liable to a lock.

Besides, it's been a rule to include a source for a while.

Yeah, I know, sorry Mage. The topic of bullying brings a whole slew of unpleasant memories to the forefront and I tend to lose my cool. It pisses me off that people have a tendency to ignore such a serious problem unless someone like Famous Joe brings attention to it.

I was taking getting a source lightly, not the subject matter. I myself was bullied through out school so I know first hand what it's like.

People ignore problems until they are brought to their attention because by and large they have no concept that there even is a problem. But I digress.

Ignorance is an unacceptable excuse. People should educate themselves on what is happening. Christ suicides are not something to be shoved under the rug, they're a lot more common than people think. I personally blame society.

So then you should be outraged and crusading for the atrocities committed in Sri Lanka and Darfur, and the atrocious violations of basic human rights in Iran, and the massive problem with AIDS education in Africa, and the displacement of indigenous tribes in South America.

Wait, you aren't? And why is that? Probably because you don't know about them. Well damn, looks like you need to educate yourself before you go off on a tangent about people not educating themselves about issues.

Seriously, no one has the time, resources, and most don't even have the desire to dig up everything they can find about all the bad things happening in the world so they can be outraged by them.

A lack of knowledge doesn't prove intelligence. Also some people seem to lack the gene of independent learning. But that's not important to the thread. @wolf: I too am sick of people not willing to find important knowledge but when their favorite celebrity talks about it suddenly they claim to be an expert. They don't really give a fuck, it's all about seeming morally righteous to their friends. People see starving children on the news and they go "that's sad" then forget about it.

Seriously, no one has the time, resources, and most don't even have the desire to dig up everything they can find about all the bad things happening in the world so they can be outraged by them.

I agree for the most part but people these days never seem to follow up on their curiosity. Wars have been fought and people have died for the sake of their countries progress and you know what's sad? When people watch nature specials on the TV when they have the opportunity to go there, or when You see so many minority counties with major disasters and hardly anyone goes to help them.Or when some hippie says that animals are the most peaceful so they are the way to salvation or whatever crap. But when a couple of backpackers from whatever state your in die it is front page news. I agree with your points wolf, but i also agree with most people.
Also this thread is on bullying I think, not so much suicide.(the OP wasn't so clear to me)
