Why do half the people who visit the WEPR forums smear Christianity? Why don't you people realize that, yeah, Christians can be real dumb-a** mofo's from time to time, but yet there are many, many Christian organizations out there that do good all across the globe. Why must you spend your time trying to convince people that Christians are bad people when that is simply not true?
from thefreedictionary.com) 3. messiah One who is anticipated as, regarded as, or professes to be a savior or liberator.
Again, I want your words.
Last I checked Christianity was a religion and all a religion is, is a belief.
Not so. Religion, if one is passionate about it, is a way of life. Again I ask, how many have died defending Atheism? What purpose did they have doing so? I am not trying to gain pity, I am trying to get an answer.
No they aren't comparable either. If you want to compare the Bible with something else then you would want to compare it to another holy text claiming absolute truth.
If they are not comparable, why is it that the Bible has a set of rules and Guidlines and so does the Constitution? What happens when we break the laws and rules that are laid out in the constitution? We are punished. Same with the Bible. Why do we just accept the constitution? Why do we just say, "Ok, I follow those rules." When it says nearly the same in the Bible?
This arguing bring up another thing that rubs me the wrong way with not just Christianity but many religions. It's complete lack of critical thinking and denialistic ways.
Mage, I am not asking you to quote the Bible, I want you to say what you think are contradictions in the Bible. I want your words, not because I don't want to watch those videos, but because the words you use are important. What am I doing in this debate? Am I flat out saying "You're wrong!" and moving on? I would hope not! I am trying to glean why you think the way you do! If I am saying "No, you're wrong," please tell me so!
Why do we just accept the constitution? Why do we just say, "Ok, I follow those rules." When it says nearly the same in the Bible?
Because the Bible is a set of beliefs. The Constitution is the law of the nation. There's nothing spiritual about the Constitution. And because the Constitution has the most fundamental amendment that says we can practice any religion we wished, the Christian book is just a book in our eyes. We can make a nation based off religion. But of course those types fail.

What is law then if not a set of beliefs? Is it not the law that it is wrong to murder? Is it not the law that it is wrong to steal?
If those types fail so readily as you have said, then why is it the Roman Empire fell and the Church remained even though the Church was made before the Roman Empire?
Because if you read my other post, you would have seen that the Church uses mass propaganda movements and used to execute people that had wrong beliefs. They killed people if they had wrong beliefs, or if they did something that seemed blasphemous. They went on witch hunts for people they thought were blasphemous.
What is law then if not a set of beliefs? Is it not the law that it is wrong to murder? Is it not the law that it is wrong to steal?
You have the laws of a governing council, in the U.S., it's the three branches of government, and for the Bible, it's the laws of an unknown entity somewhere in the deep reaches of oblivion. They are not laws, they are commandments, beliefs, and morals. It is sad, however, to see that those that read the Bible's beliefs and morals as correct. See where we the Christians lie now.
Hence their persecution, for refusing to pay homage to the emperor.
But even Jesus said to pay homage to Caesar! In Mark 12:17, it says 'Then Jesus said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's."'
And think about it... Before Romulus, the jews were still practicing their faith, only in Egypt. Technically, that was the church then.

So am I right in saying that what you're saying is that the Bible's laws are fallible because they come from "an unknown entity somewhere in the deep reaches of oblivion"?

Yes. Who do you think wrote "the 10 commandments"? Obviously in the book it was God who gave them to Moses, right? When do you think the real Bible was written? It couldn't have been during biblical times, could it? Or was it hundreds of years after the death of the supposed Jesus Christ?
You asked me fore the definition I was using, THAT'S IT!
Not so. Religion, if one is passionate about it, is a way of life.
And if your not passionate about it it doesn't count? I like to play games regularly thus I can be classified as a gamer, it wouldn't matter whether or not I was passionate about playing games.
Again I ask, how many have died defending Atheism? What purpose did they have doing so?
What? You want to know how many have died defending their lack of belief?

Religion and government aren't the same thing. The Bible is claiming absolutes not just for those who follow it but for everyone regardless. It's presenting events that never happened as truth.
...You do realize that Judaism and Christianity are two separate religions, yes?
"Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's."
Julius Caesar was never emperor, the imperial period started with Caesar's nephew Augustus(Octavian) gaining the throne. Julius Caesar held the position of dictator for the time he was alive. Secondly Do you lack the ability to analyze that simple line? Without any surrounding context, what that line is saying is that Caesar the should get the respect that a mortal does, and God gets the respect that well God gets.

It was created before and after Jesus. The bible is the culmination of Historical texts that were Divinly inspired. The king Justin from the old Testimant found historical texts while destroying one temple to build another one, read them and was so greatly moved that he presereved all of them to create much of what is now the old testimant.
The books of the new testimant, were written by Apostles and others about their experiences with Jesus and what happened after his Death, Burial, and resurection. They even follow what happened after he ascended to heaven.
