The 2011 Formula 1 season is now but 3 weeks away. Already there has been drama, with the cancelation of the Bahrain grand Prix. This season is shaping up to be great again though, with multiple teams in contention and plenty of great drivers, as well as the introduction of adjustable rear wings and the reintroduction of the KERS system. So, what do you think about the season. Until the season starts, this thread shall be for prediction and general pre-season discussion.

And as an extra, the current driver line-up for the season.

Red Bull: Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber
McLaren: Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button
Ferrari: Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa
Mercedes GP: Michael Schumacher, Nico Rosburg
Renault: Nick Heidfeld, Vitaly Petrov
Williams: Rubens Barrichello, Pastor Maldonado
Force India: Adrian Sutil, Paul di Resta
Sauber: Kamui Kobayashi, Sergio Perez
Toro Rosso: Sebastian Buemi, Jamie Alguersuari
Lotus: Jarno Trulli, Heikki Kovalainen
HRT: Narain Karthikeyan, TBA
Virgin: Timo Glock, Jerome d'Ambrosio

Maldonado copped a 5 place penalty for his, uh, "indiscretion" at the end of 2nd qualifying yesterday. Appropriate or too soft?

The whole thing was a big chaotic with the weather changing like it did. Ultimately the best lap time came down to whoever came out last. I have to say, as much as I dislike Vettel winning so much, he and his team seem to have this knack for opportune timing. I can't tell whether it's just a freakishly good run of luck or they're really that good, but evidence seems to point to at least some of the latter.

I also get the feeling that Webber actually prefers applying pressure from behind, but why are his starts invariably abysmal? We'll see what happens in today's race.

danm rosberg got a awsome start there. 1st it looked like his car died on him but at the actual start he was like roadrunner =P

Fantastic race so far, if you like your races full of twists and drama. And really insane passing moves. And Hamilton thinking he'd pulled one off and not quite checking the mirrors before he took himself out on Kobayashi's tyre.

Sometimes I like Kobayashi but some other time I think he is dangerous and a kamikaze. I hate that Vettel won again. I hate him more every time he wins. He has no personality, well maybe a little more than Kimi Raikonen. I'm glad people joined the thread again because I was about to quit posting and talking to myself.

It was a good race. I was excited to see Senna starting on 7th, I was hoping for a good race from him but he crashed on the first turn. =(

I didn't like Vettel winning again but I liked Button's and Schumi's races. They started on bad positions and could reach the the higher place in the end.

Interesting race at Monza. Vettel won, of course, but I was happy to see Ferrari at least made the podium at their home grand prix. I was hoping that Schumi would make the podium but he fell back too far.
I also can't believe that there were so many cars out of the race. Eight cars retiring is unbelievable. The first lap crash with Liutzi, Petrov, Rosburg, and Barichello was one the craziest I've ever seen. That race was just crazy.
At this point, Vettel has just about locked up the title officially. I think he really just needs to finish in the points in Singapore and he's got it.

I'm not convinced that there is any point in this night race. Take out some of the floodlights and force them to fix headlights, then it would be better. Part of the reason for this night race is the timing, so that the Europeans can watch it live without getting up at 4 in the morning as with some races. I hope they get the kerbs sorted out, or we will see half the race under the safety car while they do emergency repairs. That said I have my Alonso T shirt(s) ready and Ferrari cap. My girlfriend had bought a M Schumacher cap, it would be nice to see him on the podium before the end of the season.

Dear Vettel,

Stop Winning

~Waluigi

God ****it, Vettel won again and has all but locked up the championship officially. Someone needs to beat him, please.
Anyway, it was a bit of a chaotic race. I got to see the incident with Hamilton and Massa, but I didn't see the Schumi crash. I heard it was spectacular though.
The next race of the season is the Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka circuit. Should be an interesting race with the way that track is designed.

I didn't see the Schumi crash.

It was basically his mistake. Perez needed to do a pit stop and Schumi had done his so he was a lot faster. Schumi just ran over Perez.

And who do you think is going to be the runner up this year? There's going to be an interesting fight in the last races...

Hey! I decided to check into this thread you mentioned making and I had to look for it really hard! Never knew there were so many new threads made in the Tavern forum every week... O.o

But I found it in the end! =D

I got to see the incident with Hamilton and Massa, but I didn't see the Schumi crash. I heard it was spectacular though.

The Hamilton and Massa incident was something stupid, merely a race accident if you ask me! Hamilton manages to get next to Massa, but is on the wrong side of him and when he turns in behind Massa, he's simply a bit too early punctioring Massa right rear wheel as you can see here. Later on after the race Massa taps Hamilton on the arm and says "good job", meaning the opposite of course, but it's probably because they already had a quarrell earlier in Q3 on saturday... this might explain the irritation between the two!

As for the Schumacher/Perez incident (commentary done by Coulthard?!? idk)... this too (IMO) is merely a racing accident. Everyone is all over Schumi again about it, but it's an almost identical situation to the Webber/Kovalainen crash in Valencia 2010! The driver in front slows down a bit and the driver behind him is too close to him and unable to avoid a collision. Only blame (if you want to call it that) is towards Schumi for making the 'rookie' mistake of driving to close, knowing Perez would pit soon and simply should have waited it out... but all and all, I'm glad to see Schumi surfacing again and becoming a little better compared to the season's start! =D

And if I must comment on Vettel's win... AGAIN! Aaaargggghh! ...he's simply the best driver with (most importantly) the best car in the field right now! If Red Bull manages to keep the gap in car performance for next year's season, we'll probably have a same 'Vettel show' all over again... don't know if I'm going to like that... =/

If you like to see the Singapore highlights, here's a race recap video I found!

Very nice race! Jenson Button did it again! He really has matured a lot. Vettel won another championship. If he keeps going like this he will beat all Schumacher's records.

Why having a Grand Prix in Korea? It's raining all the time and it's boring! Why not replacing it with an European or American race which would be crowded all the time.

The Grand Prix of Korea was another boring race won by Vettel.
I quit watching it midway I was just listening to it while creating a ship on CTC2PP.

Next race is in 2 weeks in India. Is it going to be another half crowded race? How many Indians can actually afford a ticket?

Maybe in five years they will build a circuit on Mars. :|
