The 2011 Formula 1 season is now but 3 weeks away. Already there has been drama, with the cancelation of the Bahrain grand Prix. This season is shaping up to be great again though, with multiple teams in contention and plenty of great drivers, as well as the introduction of adjustable rear wings and the reintroduction of the KERS system. So, what do you think about the season. Until the season starts, this thread shall be for prediction and general pre-season discussion.

And as an extra, the current driver line-up for the season.

Red Bull: Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber
McLaren: Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button
Ferrari: Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa
Mercedes GP: Michael Schumacher, Nico Rosburg
Renault: Nick Heidfeld, Vitaly Petrov
Williams: Rubens Barrichello, Pastor Maldonado
Force India: Adrian Sutil, Paul di Resta
Sauber: Kamui Kobayashi, Sergio Perez
Toro Rosso: Sebastian Buemi, Jamie Alguersuari
Lotus: Jarno Trulli, Heikki Kovalainen
HRT: Narain Karthikeyan, TBA
Virgin: Timo Glock, Jerome d'Ambrosio

The thing about Alonso is that when you give him a too good car, he seem to lose interest. Remember when he was with MacLaren? He had the best car but he didn't do that great. When he came to Ferrari he won the first race and he also did well with Renault.

I think he needs a good challenge to keep his interest high. As anyone noticed that as well?

Yeah. At least its not like Kimi Raikoinnin. He wins the championship, then two years later he leaves for rally. Now this year, he's headed off for NASCAR.

What's wrong with those guys? Didn't Montoya also went to Nascar?
Who wants to go from prestigious International to Redneck local?

I'm reposting waluigi's post from my thread, which I locked coz it was a duplicate:

Malaysia again showed that this year's season will be much like last. Unfortunately, I didn't get to watch it live, but I read the summary of it. I have to say that I'm dejected that the ferraris are not doing any better than they are. Maybe they'll improve as the season goes on, but who knows.

So, results posting, I shall do. I only go up to tenth with these results.

The next round of the season takes place in China. Tune in in a week for that round

Personally as a Webber fan I'm annoyed that Red Bull's KERS is causing trouble for him. That crappy launch cost him dearly but he came back to 4th with clever pit strategy. In a haunting echo to last year these reliability issues may prove to be telling, who knows. It's a shame that the other teams haven't capitalised on their KERS woes... I'm also wondering when Vettel's streak is gonna break, and how he reacts to it.

No one really does. However, NASCAR probably pays out more to its drivers than any other series besides F1.
I feel that both Montoya and Riakonnin are wasting their talent. They are both good at driving open wheel cars, and at least, they should try heading over to the Indycar Series.

Alonso is my favourite driver.I liked the old tires better so there was less stops.

I used to watch a stock car series back in Canada, and the cars were similar than the ones in Nascar but they were racing on an open circuit like the F1 and Indy series and it was fun to watch.
I almost got killed by an Indy Car BTW. I was riding my mountain bike on the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit in Montreal on a week end when a car came out of the paddocks and I was sure I was going to die but the driver stepped on the brakes and stopped like an inch from my front wheel. Now I know that these cars can brake on a dime. I can tell you it is true because i'm still alive. It wasn't an F1 car but a lower one, a 1500 maybe, I'm not sure because it was a long time ago.

If it was long enough ago, it could have been a Champ Car, when the series still existed. Still a scary experience I'd say.
I've almost entirely stopped watching NASCAR. The series is boring, with all but two races on the entire 36 race schedule being oval and a fairly unfair championship system. Its boring.

I don't watch F1 I don't see the point in just watching people drive around a race course

Nascar races are basically people driving in an oval circuit and turning to the left while F1 has left, right, S shaped turns, up and down hills, 90 degrees turns, narrow and wide tracks and some circuit like Monaco are so narrow that it make watching it very exciting.

If you don't like it, just don't post here

I didn't watch any of the races this season yet (they were 3 AM in my country so it is hard to see it) but from what I see, Red Bull and McLaren are the best ones for the moment. I hope Ferrari don't do well this year because I hate Alonso. I wish Webber win this year.

season 2008 was the best for me and especially the last turn of the last lap of the last race in Brazil (under heavy rain) where Felipe Massa finished first and Lewis Hamilton was 6th and he needed to by fifth in order to win the championship.

Dude, I watched this race jumping and screaming in front of the TV. It was kind of funny in the end when Felipe's team was celebrating for 10 seconds then Hamilton passes Glock and gets the championship and the team's face was awesome. :P

Come on man give Felipe a chance. It's not his fault what happened, it was a team order so he had to obey. He wasn't happy at all when the Ferrari team told him to let Alonso pass. He made sure that the FIA would know what he had to give up his position. I think he should change team next year before he gets totally depressed.

I like Ferrari but sometimes they do stupid things like forcing Schumacher to retire. He was still good back then but now I think he lost it.

erm...I believe he was referring to the Brazil race of '08. Nut I a gree that Massa should switch teams, but there are really no good teams to go to at this point.
Ferrari has definitely made some questionable moves in the past. I never understood why you would make someone who won 5 consecutive titles retire.
Now for a little race preview, if you will. Our next round takes us to China. This season is looking a good deal like last, with Red Bull and McLaren again dominating. There is a prediction for rain during the race this weekend, which always makes things interesting. Will Red Bull continue their domination, will McLaren bridge the gap, or will a new challenger appear? Find out this weekend!

Yes I can't wait for the week end and I hope there will be rain because quite a few drivers are great in the rain even though their car isn't the best. Hamilton, Schumacher, and Alonso are good on rainy conditions so we'll know soon enough. I probably won't visit this thread during the week end because of our different time zones. I would hate to know the results before I watch it myself. My DVR is already programmed!
