I'm sure you've all heard the doom sayers stating that the world will end on Saturday May 21 2011. What is the basis behind this belief that the world will end on this day, what sets this apart from all the other doomsday theories, and where do you stand on this forecast of oblivion.

Yes i've heard it.
What is the basis behind this belief that the world will end on this day
As far as I know...they have no basis.
what sets this apart from all the other doomsday theories,
Uh...nothing? Bunch of half baked paranoid idiots who have nothing better to do came up with a random date that the world would end on so they had something to talk about? Who knows...
and where do you stand on this forecast of oblivion.
It's not going to be the 21st of May, It's not going to be the year 2012, it's not going to be 2222, it's not going to be 6666--it's not going to be ANY year. A select year chosen for the end of the world is based SOLELY on religious beliefs, which blend in nicely with superstition. When is a real, scientific estimate for the end of the world? Whenever our sun decides to give in. Humanity may not even be there when that time comes--we may decide to move entirely unto another fertile planet or destroy ourselves with our own differences.
I think I read somewhere , I think during a science class, that the sun has about another 4.5 billion years before it engulf the first three planets of the universe when it becomes a red giant, but I personally think were going to kill ourselves long before that.
I personally think were going to kill ourselves long before that.
We do have the possibility at the moment to do that, so it's not unlikely that in the future we'll find even more devastating ways to destroy ourselves. Really, the "only" chance the human race has to survive indefinitely is if we develop the technology to leave our solar system, either locate or terraform other planets for habitable use, and repeat. Then it won't matter to the whole of the human race if a crazy dictator gets their hands on a doomsday weapon and destroys the planet/makes it unable to be lived on, since we'll be spread out.
Sorry I did mean solar system, my mind is kind of out of it right now. Even if we do terraform other planets we will keep developing even more ways to conquer each other that will eventually lead to our downfall.
It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine.
I think doomsayers are idiots. I mean, if they're right, everyone will die and they wont get to brag about it, and if they're wrong, they'll look like idiots. It's a lose-lose situation.
And I hadn't even heard of the May 21 2011 thing, but I'm pretty sure it's nonsense. The end of the world might happen eventually, but it will probably not happen suddenly, without warning, and if it does, no one will be able to predict it.
I expect this to be a complete fake, though I do wonder where did that pastor get money for all that. Also, if the world would not end by this time, he will either have to flee from his creditors, or repay debts. Hehe. Anyway, "you should be ready to meet God any time, since you don't know if you are to see the next dawn".
Its people like this who give the rest of us Christians a bad rap. Seriously though, an article I read said they had been posting this up on bill boards all over the world. Where the heck did they get money to do this?
Best Bet EVAR: "I bet a hundred billion gazillion dollars that the world won't end tomorrow"
well, doomsday will surely happen. it is the day when this world faces its fated destruction. it's just a matter of when and how. no matter how much human struggle to prevent it, they will finally realize that they are powerless by nature. so, should we fear it? should we just give up in this life, as sooner or later, this world and everything in it will finally be reduced to nothing? well, if one belives that this life means nothing, where every living things are born out of coincidence and without meaning, he should. however, if one do believe that whatever he does in this life will somehow bear an effect, then he should just continue living, doing what he believes is right.
Doomsday is the work of the highest power with absolute authority. we, as merely a grain of sand in the desert, should just prepare for it.
