If Satan is supposed to be evil, why does he punish bad people
From a religious POV the reason that would likely be given is that the evil people are the only ones he can hurt. Though this ignores areas where this isn't the case.
And what if Satan would change his mind? What if he wouldn't be evil to the evil people? Then everybody would like to go to hell. I mean, you can do anything on earth and still have a good afterlife. Wouldn't that piss off God?

Best thing is, we wouldn't even know about that since christianity is hammering us with the "evil devil and painful hell" idea, and as far as I know, we have no stories written by a demon about how hell really is^^
Another question Why doesn't Satan show himself? It's said god doesn't because he wants to protect free will out of some form of love. If the devils whole deal is to undermine what God wants then it stands to reason him showing up and saying hi in a physical form would do the trick. He could even use the appearance to say how the Bible got it all wrong about hell.

why wouldn't he do this and impersonate God? if satan could appear in a physical form and God could not satan could tell them that he is God and lead them astray
God is like a parent. Your parents don't forgive you if you chant their name and kiss a cross. Neither does God. He only forgives you if you are sincere. This gives lots of room for people to be tormented in Hell, but not everyone is punished the same. Think Hitler vs. a common thief.
@grimml
Satan is evil to everybody. He tricks you, then abandons you. His goal is to make you as miserable as he is.
Yeah, but any parent who tortures their kid for all eternity for blasphemy would be put into jail.
Ah, but it never says anywhere that people are tortured for eternity, nor does it say how. It could just be you are tortured by the thoughts of you sins or whatnot. And why would you punish a simple thief for eternity?
