What houses are good in Skyrim,By that I mean storage, distance from entrance of hold+shops, distance from smelter and blacksmith and price.I already have the Breezehome and 4500 gold and about 1000-1500 worth of sellable things in the Breezehome.
Best house imo is still Breezehome, it's only downside is that it has no arcane enchanter and no mannequins. But it has one of the biggest storage capacity of all houses, and it is the cheapest and easiest to get.
Honeyside in Riften is unique thanks to its backdoor that makes it possible to enter the house without actually enter the city; just come from outside the docks. It has the least storage capacity though. but I find it a cozy little house. There's an alchemist just neabry, and a small garden, which makes is cool for alchemists. Costs: 8000 + 4300 (House + total of upgrades)
Vlindrel Hall in Markarth is simply cool because it's Dwemer architecture and a big house. Its only real advantage are all its book shelves. There's a direct stairway from the city gates to it, and it's not far from Understone keep. But it's not near any shop for all I know. Costs: 8000 + 4200
Hjerim in Windhelm has the most storage capacity and also has the most mannequins and displays, which makes it quite cool. It's not immediately near any shops, but it's easy to reach from the castle (which is a short travel location by itself). Costs: 12000 + 9000
Proudspire Manor in Solitude is the most expensive and useless; it's big, but it has few storage capacity, no mannequins or displays, and its only advantage is being near the Blue Palace, the Bards College and other important Solitude buildings. Costs: 25000 + 11000
I own a fully upgraded Proudspire manor, and it actually does have a couple mannequins, a weapon storage rack, two or three displays, and decent storage capacity. Plus the kitchen and alchemist lab are stocked full of stuff. Also, there is an unusual gem upstairs by the bed.
The manor is big, but I agree it isn't the best. I bought it just to say I could, though I agree that Hjerim or Breezehome is probably better.
When you've obtained the house in Windhelm, before adding any upgrades, don't forget to first take the option 'Clean up the mess', or else the 'mess' will stay..

do you have to do something before he comes with that message or does he just come at like a certain date. in other words do i have to get to a certain part of the story or do certain other quests before the courier comes with the letter and what do you have to do after the museum or will it be apart of the museum
