Welcome to the Art Skills Competition 2014/2015, or "ASC" for short. It is a contest to gather willing artists from the forums to compete in a friendly test of their skills and reward the best of their work each round.
Rounds will take place each month, the last day of the month will be the final cutoff for any entries. The judging will take place the first week of the following month.
___________________________________________________________________
Competition Guidelines :
1. The entry must be 100% original material.
2. Each round lasts for a month; closing date is at the end of that month.
3. Submissions should be relevant to the current month's theme. (See thread's title)
4. Keep posts resolutions within reason and if you must have a larger resolution, link it to the entry.
5. Entries can be created in any medium, please note that it will be appreciated if hand drawn entries are cropped to contain only the intended work.
6. Winners will be announced by the judge of the competition at the end of each round; the results are final and non-debatable.
7. The winner of a round will have the right to choose the next theme; if this takes too long, the judge will choose one instead.
8. All participants of each round will receive a Merit for their hard work; the winner of each round will receive the Armor Games "Artist Quest"!
Round 1: Knight
This months theme will be dedicated to creating a knight representing that of Armor Games, it is a non official character to try and stir the imaginations of artists and viewers. The artist should endeavor to embody Armor Games in a Knightly character.
You might think that I'm wearing makeup, but I'm actually just very tired. Also the kind message in the background says "Eat Shot", not whatever you might think it is. My sister asked me to put it in there to mislead and confuse you and you may have been insulted for a few seconds but never fear for it simply says Eat Shot.
There's something before it! What is the full message, I must know (╯°□°)╯
Unfortunately, the rest of the message was not nearly as innocent and mundane as "EAT SHOT". It isnot a convoluted tangle of rude words all strung together out of a moment of frustration, and definitely not something I shouted when I realized I'd accidentally deleted 563 pictures off of my tablet. For sure.
Round 13 Judging
(Oops, not so accurate on the "within 24 hours".)
Let's see here.
Gaboloth
A rather unnerving take, this one. The stark black and white contrasts help that along, too, bright lines making it stand out much harsher/eerier than it would have with black ones on white background. Nifty.
Ernie15
This one is clever. Is there more to the idea of identifying with your online avatar than mere cleverness? I'd probably sound too much like an art critic if I commented on that.
akshobhya
Very simple, very symbolistic, very impersonal.
spaceskeleton
The bunny is adorable. Portraying a cosmic commander when your username has "space" in it is a bit clever. Not sure where the "slightly evil" comes in, though? Not much evil about standing in a space ship and petting a sleeping bunny. The tiny skull? Anyway, this is quite well drawn. A little heavy on the use of black, though.
StormWalker
This makes either a tired, bored or "thinks this is beneath me" sort of impression, if I had to interpret the facial expression. The background is very vibrant and uses imagery that may be interpreted as representative of mental instability, possibly backed up by the use of (near) swearing, an interesting contrast to the fairly straight face. (Speaking of sounding like an art critic...)
Also, what's the border? Cell phone UI?
Arm_Candy
Green faced king of the castle? The phrase "green with envy" springs to my mind, and I wonder what this king may be envious of if he seemingly has so much and feels it so necessary to show it off in a picture of himself.
Hectichermit
The combination of the haphazard lines and the, as you put it, ridiculous expression makes for a very eery looking portrait. Something about the style and asymmetry, especially of the the eyes and the gaping mouth, makes it seem fit for use in a screamer.
Winner:
This was close to a three-way tie (even with only 6 entries), but the winner is @StormWalker.
Please select the next theme.

:P well the asymmetry is probably due to the angle I took the photo for the reference. As for the haphazard line...I was drawing this rather quickly, I basically traced out my reference and then tried to figure out where I was goin with it, I started thinking about all the horror genres...Btw the reference I used had no beard :P i sorta scribbled that ontop as a reference to my online persona.
