In all of my life, I have found that out of all religions, most people who aren't Christian dislike Christianity more out of all the other religions. My question is: why?
What I meant was this. That the bible we have is an accurate source of history and can be view as true.
Ex: The bible tells the story of a person named Jesus, who lived around 30AD, who claimed to be God, and who was eventually Crucified.
Whether or not you believe Jesus was really God is another debate, but I don't think its logical to claim that the bible was altered or changed to make Jesus into a deity.
Was Aristotle writing anything other than philosophies and theories of science? He wasn't a historian in the sense that he was recording what actual people were doing. Even if he was, there is no real evidence if it was true.
I believe Pliny was a natural historian, as he wrote Naturalus Historia (sp?). I know he was also a philosopher. Though some of his manuscripts and letters do contain actual people.
My point is that there philosophies and some of their theories of science are accepted in academia, but not the accuracy in their documents is not comparable to the accuracy of the Bible.
I seriously do not know the answer to this question because with all these religious topics, my brain is jumbled. Maybe people just don't like christianity because hitler started the rumble about all the jews an stuff, about racist stuff, which leads to chistianity as a matter of jewish people
It's always thrown in my face. 24 years on this earth and no other religion has ever had a member approach me and tell me in a round about way that my soul needs saving.
Wait! I have a sterotypical article to prove why many people do haye Christianity! And do not be all like "Um...Catholics are totally not Christians." To which I will reply "Yeah...whateva! Talk to the hand."
MASSENA â" A Roman Catholic priest has been arrested here on several felony counts of having sexual contact with children, state police in Montgomery County said.
John W. Broderick, 47, Nicholville, was arrested Monday on three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, one count of second-degree sexual abuse and four counts of endangering the welfare of a child. The sexual abuse charges are all felonies and the endangering of a child charges are misdemeanors.
Broderick was arraigned in the town of Palatine Court and was sent to the Montgomery County Jail, Fultonville, where bail was set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond.
State police made the arrest on a complaint from a Montgomery County family. The victims' father said Broderick befriended his family and had become its spiritual adviser, state police said.
Over the course of several months last year, Broderick had inappropriate sexual contact with at least four family members ranging in age from 5 to 11, state police said.
man, this is a fallacious argument, because you can't judge an entire group of persons just on simgle cases like this one. Obviously, this preist wasn't really a man of God and he will be punished in consequence on the final judgement day. All the christians are NOT like him!!!
No, but you have to admit that it is a very prevelent stereotype.
I am sure that everytime this happens, someone says that the priest was not truly a man of god or the such. But it is not as if the day after being ordained as as priest, they get access to a bunch of gleeful little kiddies and have fun. If my memory recalls, most of them had been trusted members of the community for years before accusations were made.
Look! Statisics. Granted, a couple of years old.
-US clerics accused of abuse from 1950-2002: 4,392. About 4% of the 109,694 serving during those 52 years. -Individuals making accusations: 10,667. Victims' ages: 5.8% under 7; 16% ages 8-10; 50.9% ages 11-14; 27.3% ages 15-17. -Victims' gender: 81% male, 19% female -Duration of abuse: Among victims, 38.4% said all incidents occurred within one year; 21.8% said one to two years; 28%, two to four years; 11.8% longer. -Victims per priest: 55.7% with one victim; 26.9% with two or three; 13.9% with four to nine; 3.5% with 10 or more (these 149 priests caused 27% of allegations). -Abuse locations: 40.9% at priest's residence; 16.3% in church; 42.8% elsewhere. -Known cost to dioceses and religious orders: $572,507,094 (does not include the $85 million Boston settlement and other expenses after research was concluded). (Hartford Courant, 2/27/04)
So either the churches just draw bad people to them, or the church does it to them.
The point of posting the various texts, and their dates was to show the reliability of scripture from the point of context.
Meaning, the words of Aristotle we read today are trusted as being an accurate description of what he wrote about.
In the same way, we can know when Paul writes in 1 Cor 15:1-4 (NIV) "Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you have received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures."
That this is what Paul intended to say, and has not been altered or changed over the course of history.
I will gladly take a stand and say that being Catholic is different from being Christian.
Martin Luther started the Protestant reformation for a reason. The word Protestant comes from the Latin word protestatio, which means 'Declaration of Protest'.
Martin Luther in fact, had 95 BIG issues he disagreed with, and he posted them to the door of the Catholic church, thus starting the Protestant Reformation.
Here's my take on the sexual abuse inside the Catholic Church.
1.) The Catholic Church makes ALL priest take a vow of chastity. (meaning they will abstain from any sort of sexual contact for their entire life)
2.) This is not found in the Bible anywhere and is one of the many fallacies the Catholic church teachers.
3.) If you go against the bible, and put Males in the position of pastors and withhold sex from them, then very bad things will happen. Hence, God intended those who have a strong sexual desire to get married.
1 Corinthians 7:9 "But if they do not have self-control, let them marry; for it is better to marry than to burn with passion."
I'm just trying to make light of all of this for myself. Aristotle wrote his own works, it wasn't oral tradition for years before someone else wrote what they heard he said. Is this not the case for the Gospels? If that is the case, my point is that his accuracy and the Gospel's accuracy are quite different.
