I know that there is a topic about legalizing drugs, but I wanted to talk about Marijuana specifically.
Marijuana was banned in 1937 in the US and is now said to be a gate-way to more dangerous illegal drugs. However in this current state of economy I think we'd be better off with the legalization of marijuana. First, it would provide jobs for people. Second, more tax money to the government. Third, it would decrease sale to minors.
I don't think you guys are arguing the most important point. That Marijuana being illegal is absolutely unconstitutional. It is a blatant violation of the right to privacy. You think pot's bad? fine. You don't have to smoke it. I sure as hell won't. I want to be in control of myself at all times. But more than anything I respect the right of people to choose their own lifestyle, and make their own decisions. Smoking Marijuana is a personal choice, and does not interfere with the rights of others, and therefore, should not be illegal.
Armed blade and Asdlkf, you guys rock. We need more people who dont smoke pot, dont want to and dont think others should standing up and saying, well, what youz are saying.
Im sick of all the crap arguments ppl use to say why pot shouldnt be at least decriminalized. And to what end, how exactly does it help ppl who dont smoke. I still think that, like alchohol, it should be illigal to drive whilst under the influence, because THAT has an element of putting others in danger.
Hey people ever think they could put restrictions like you could only buy so much and only do it at home, of course rules are broken but what ever its no different now.
Part of me is annoyed that a cop in the "right" place and having a bad day could cause long lasting trouble in my life for inhaling the burnt fumes from a plant that grows naturally. I know rules are broken, but this rule is wrong.
If marijuana was legalized, the entire drug market would take a huge hit, and the government would end up with a lot more money. It's a win-win. Because the more you crack down on a black market, the more hardcore criminals and thugs get into the business, the higher the prices are, and the more profit and therefore more drugs the market generates.
Legalizing all hard drugs and taxing them not only takes away a lot of the risk of overuse (because if the stuff in a factory or grown on a corporate farm, it's a lot safer then if it was grown in some dude's backyard or made in his bathroom) and the drugs can be tweaked so they're less addicting/less potent and overall would have less risk.
It would be a deadly gut-punch to the criminal drug market, and it would be safer for all the junkies.
California voters approved a referendum to legalize marijuana for medical uses. This will cut out many private sellers and stop the funding of the Mexican Drug War which has killed about 14,000 this year alone.
Sorry for the double post, but I misread the article I posted. Apparently the referendum was passed in 1996, but the bill has not passed in the house. But there is an active movement to get it rolling again.
I dont think so clearly when stoned... but I tend not to smoke before doing importent things, same way I wouldnt drink before importent things. Its a mind altering substance, and should be used accordingly. I think legalization is a general consensus shared by most people with a brain.
