Most Americans go to school 180 days, right? That's a little bit less than half a year.
Yes, that is the day count, but it's not 180 days straight and then break the rest of the year, it's spaced out so that we cannot really get a break until either winter or summer break. Summer break for me starts on June 6th or so and ends on august 10th or something like that. Thats a two month break, or 8 weeks. Add up spring, fall, and winter break and that's another month off. Put all together, and you're going to school for 9/12 months. Im not counting weekends because there's no time to really do anything, im just counting any break that's a week or more.
I think they could condense it to at most 10 years. It's such a waste of time. I remember learning almost the same thing every year. They need to take out wasted time. Also they should pay the teachers more. If they payed them well, this would increase the competition and help weed out the moron teachers. I have had so many teachers where I knew for a fact that I could teach the classes better than they could. I think the length of the day, and the time off for summer is fine. Too long of a school day and people stop paying attention, and you wont have time for sports. I just think they need to not waste so many years of our lives on the same common sense information.
Well, judging by the intelligence of some Americans, they certainly need it. Just kidding... But still, only about 6 hours of school? Here in Sweden, we I go to school 8:00 to 17:30 every day (except for mondays; 9:30 16:00). If my calculations are correct, that is 9 hours and 30 minutes, a bit more than 6 hours.
I think Obama has a reason to make the days longer, otherwise he wouldn't do it.
Yeah, school seems so painfully long now, why make it any longer. You are just to have more kids getting in trouble and doing drugs because they are bored of school. Kids, mainly the younger ones, need to get out and have fun when they are young because the rest of their life they are going to be working from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until they retire.
