Think about it, what is religion? The belief in something that cannot be proven, that has many, many things that as of yet we have found impossible, and in many people, it is unshakeable. Now I am not saying that all religious people are going to go kill someone or end up in an assylum, but think, in every religion, the basis is something that cannot be know, but is only faith. Faith in something that could turn out to be wrong, faith in something that you have absolutely no way of knowing. Also, think how many of these religions started, some person got a message from a "god" that told them what to do. Don't go crazy on me, I just want people to think about it.
There, I've changed the title to reflect what we really need to be focusing on. Let's drop the insanity debate, for realsies. Let's focus on justification.
does religon really have to be justified, proof or no proof, no one's going to change their opinions on this thread, i guess im trying of argueing/debating, i kinda just want to ask a question and get an answer, this thead has kinda turned into each side just demanding answers from the other side and then criticizing the answer. i dont want a "why do you believe this, its stupid" i want a "so why do you believe this, im interesting in knowing the answer" why can't we just love eachother
Is religious insanity part of the move of the "New Atheist"?
Okay, I want to set this straight before it goes any further. Aethism isn't a group like chirstianity, it's just when you don't have a religion. We don't gather, or plan attacks on religion as it would seem many of you think, we just can't bring ourselves to believe in something that is so out there, with no proof but, "He has spoken to (fill in the blank)" We are not lacking morals or criminals any more often than a religious person is, even less if you count in radicals. Truth is, we are just curious.
even when there is barely any truth to it.
Bad wording, sorry, definite evidence would be more appropriate.
Insanity is believing atheism doesn't mean attacking Christianity. That's all they ever do! I show one guy this movie of snake handlers and he goes, "Oh, there pet snakes, not real ones." Stupid. Can't you just accept some believes and practices that you don't understand?
It is not insanity you just believe in something. Here is the real definition of insanity.
You went with wikipedia as a better source than other things? For all we know, you changed it right before you posted that link.

Okay, first of all, we don't attack it, we ask why. It's not attacking to ask why. Maybe some do, but most I know just want to know why. As for the snakes, you were talking about how the holy spirit protected them. One, the snakes never bit, so there's no proof, once again, of anything happening, and two, those snakes were either very docile or not a type of snake that bites regularly. If we didn't accept you as having a religion, then it would be like the crusades, where we start a mass war for no reason.

I that the flames are starting to grow......
We don't mean to bash your religion, we are showing you WHY we choose not to pray to a God. Some of those reasons do contradict the Bible and other holy books. I could say the same for you as well. Kids at my school probably spend more time saying how insane I am for turning my back on God, than actually praying to him. >_<
About the snake thing: Professional Zoologists know how to train snakes so they can be controlled. Also, the zoologist could drain all the venom from a snake so it becomes far less lethal. The drained venom goes to making antidotes by the way.
So Yielee, If God only protects his followers from BITES and not from the VENOM that comes form the bites, then my experiment cannot be tested, and therefor, you have no proof that God protects theists from snake bites. *other than the Bible which of course, is NOT a sconce book.*

But he does understand.
When Harry Houdini wasn't escaping from shackles, he was going around exposing psychics to be frauds. People would, and, still do, pay psychics to communicate with dead relatives. Harry Houdini exposed these people because these people gave false hope to grieving families by lying to them and tricking them and because it was big business.
Almost anything can be explained. Many religious miracles are cons that make people profit off lying to innocent people.
BTW, snake charmers don't train their snakes and the music doesn't matter. They hypnotize snakes through movement, not sound.

Yes, but there are atheists much more aggressive than you are.

I can get that, but we aren't really here to explain why we're atheists.
