What do you think about this? I feel that it should not be built at ground zero because I find that extremely disrespectful to the families and victims of that infamous day.

So why are we even discussing this? I had heard, 6 years ago that they were talking about building the liberty tower but then that story just died off. This shouldn't matter or even be an issue if the mosque is 2 blocks away, right?

I think the Liberty Building is still in the plans. Building it close by and having it to open on the anniversary of the day it happened came off as seeming like the whole things was being rubbed in everyone's face. While it's likely that wasn't the intent it does somewhat come off as a bit disrespectful, even if unintentionally so.
Despite appearances or intent they have all the permission and have gone through all the necessary legal channels to have it build, so regardless of intent or anyone's personal feelings about it they should be allowed to build it.

I'm Sorry, I don't want to offend anyone, but WHY did they have to build a mosque near the site where 3000 americans died of a religous attack and WHY are they opening It on the anniversity of said attack next year? I'm sorry, but it just can't happen. It doesn't matter what purpose this is for, it can't happen. so many americans lost so much on this day and our elected leader doesn't say anything about the men lost, Just about freedom of religion. PLEASE JUST BUILD IT SOMEWHERE ELSE! This Isn't about freedom of religion, this is about the American blonn spilled on the concrete. It is hollowed ground, and It will never be forgiven. sadly, It was SO bad that no one even closely related to this attack should be able to touch it. I'm sorry.

Blah Blah Blah w/e. They can build a mosque wherever they want as long as it's legal.
Is it government property?
No.
It is private property, and whoever owns that property can build whatever they want as long as it is legal.
Do the citizens of New York or America have any say in it?
No.
It is private property and they can do what they want, no matter what the location.
Also it is under the right f the Constitution that people may freely practice religion.
Ever heard of the seperation of Church and State?
Another thing, if it was an extremist group or say, Jews or Christians, people would be upset if someone wanted to build a church or synagogue near the location.
Who cares? Suck it up.
The equvilent would be saying that Japanese people wouldn't have the right to live on Oahu, because a thousand so Americans died at the 'suprise attack on pearl harbor, Dec 7, 1941'.
Well they do live there.
Case closed.

That's actually a pretty good analogy.

This pretty much sums it up. I was watching the media news network and it just now came on where other extremist groups are trying to remove the Mosque-building plans. It is not AT Ground Zero, it is NEAR it.

What these extremist groups need to realize (pretty hard to convince but still) is that the Muslims are just as entitled to their religious opinions, concerns, beliefs, customs, etc. as anyone else. The U.S. is not based on religion and has no core religion set in stone. They also need to realize that it was extremists that were behind the said attacks. The everyday Muslims had nothing to do with it and had no say. They are good people and realize that attacking another religion does nothing.

How do you think the Japanese feel about a US military base 20 miles from Hiroshima?

In fairness, we've been building 'ground zeros' near Iraqi mosques since March 2003.

Yeah, not 20 blocks.

What's a legitimate reason for not building it there? The Muslims get their Mosque and we get our liberty tower. Part of LIBERTY is our freedom of religion, as in it shouldn't matter what is being expressed, so long as it is without hinderence.

Why, what do you have against muslims?
I bet you wouldn't complain if they built a Christian church there.

I don't have anything agianst Muslims. The hijackers were Muslim and i feel that this is a monument to the attacks and is rewarding the terrorists for what they have done. And why would a Catholic Church offend anyone?

Get real.
If they wanted to build a monument for that they'd fly another jet straight into ground zero and put a plaque in front of it.
You think Muslim-extremists go out, kill themselves, just to get a mosque built there?
I'm pretty sure they could've just asked politely.
Muslim-extremists < Muslims.

Again, because normal Muslims are just as tolerant about religions as Christia--lololol.... Sorry I couldn't type that with a straight face. Who am I kidding, the normal Muslims are MUCH more tolerant than the Christians.

Because Christianity itself is much worse than Islam, in terms of extremism. The proof is in the OP.
