Now I want to explain something first of all; I love this website. I love the variety of games, I love the developers and their blogs and I 'used' to love the forums and game comments, but recently that's been changing.
Now I've been a regular here for around two years. At first I just played the odd game here and there and lurked on the forums now and then but eventually I got round to making an account. I started commenting on the games I liked, making some forum posts almost exclusively in the flash games section and generally getting more involved. However it seems to me that the game comments are becoming more and more just youtube comments version 2. And the forums aren't a whole lot better.
So my question is; do you agree? Is the community here dumbing down, possibly even ruining the fun for you or do you think I'm just talking out of my rear end? Discuss!
I just dislike how people make an account and don't read the rules. Or the TaC. If you read those then you won't have any problems on this site.
Never mind the fact that just being AT the web site means you agree to those terms, conditions, and rules...
Thankfully the short comment spam is taken care of, and the mods continue to clean up other spammy comments. We're looking forward to AG3 where some of the spam control will be in the hands of other users, to some level.

Sounds interesting. Hmm, I wonder....
I think spam sometimes must be allowed because you keep the fun.
How is spam fun? I don't understand.
Without spam anywhere on this site. It would just be perfect. I would really like that. But that's impossible. Seeing that there are people that deliberately do it on purpose.

The way I see it, there's intentional spam and then there's accidental/ignorant spam. The latter listens and gradually gets better at posting/commenting, and the former continues to do so until he/she gets banned. I'm not a statistics person, nor do I plan on being one, but I *think* there are more ignorant spammers than intentional, by a lot. That means they can be conditioned to gradually not spam, or just not spam as much.
Don't forget the lazy ones, they start out as the latter, and slowly turn into the former. Simply because they 'can't be bothered' to write a full seven words.
I think that spam is kind of a good thing. When I see spam, it's like, "Whoa! That's spam, I need to write something better than that." So I get a higher standard for my posts.
It's really interesting to read everyone's opinions on this, I see we even have some mods in the thread.
On the one side spam can be considered a side-effect of AG's growth and therefore a sign that it's doing well, but on the other, it does detract from the whole experience seeing it everywhere you look.

I dunno i really stay in da tavern and the politics forums and theres always interesting conversations going around. I think it depends on where you look but it is true that comments for games are usualy just to rack up AG points.
In my experience, AG is very good spam-wise, the mods work hard to catch it but they are not omnipotent. Some sites I have been on(notably bubblebox and kong) have been full of spam without anyone seeming to care about it.

That seems like enough. I don't see much spam in the forums. It's just the game comments were I see most of it.

Interesting. I guess that could be a reason why spam is good. But still it should be deleted as soon as it's spotted.
