I know there's an annual Colony tournament that would like to be started, but I want to lay down some ground rules from the start.
When this tournament is over, we'll lock this topic until next year, when we'll update the thread title to reflect the current year.
RULES
1. This tournament does not "belong" to Quicksmasher/Fasty. He may have started it in the past, but he is no longer welcome as a member of our site FOR ANY PURPOSE, even if just to post on forums. The tournament will only be called the "Colony Tournament".
2. In compliance with our other rules, players proved to be cheating will face a 31-day temporary ban from the site. Circumvention of this ban, or a second hacking offense, will result in a permanent ban from the site. NO EXCEPTIONS. Report them to SoymasterYos or brp47 who will investigate and report to me.
3. Players who are permanently banned from the site may participate as GUESTS (not logged into the site or the game) if the tournament planners allow it, but creation of an account for this tournament will GET THE TOURNAMENT THREAD SHUT DOWN, and bans will be handed out. End of discussion.
4. The last active thread had a HUGE amount of text (copied from at least one or two other threads) written as a graphic image, which is unacceptable by our forum rules. We do NOT allow posting images of text, or posting text in alternate colors. Please continue to abide by these rules. Other tournament threads were shut down because we suspected that Fasty was trying to circumvent his bans in order to revive the tournament, or because they broke other forum rules (advertising, posting text as an image, etc).
As moderators and staff of the company, we still have the final say on whether a thread lives or dies, including this one.

With all that, let the games begin. Good luck to our players.
-- I reserve the right to edit this message at a later date to include more rules/notes.
Actually I change my mind. 2v2 with pre-made partnerships will 100% fail because to get 4 players on at the same time for multiple games is just wishful thinking.
1v1 is the way to go, but if not then a "king-of-the-hill" of sorts.
im confused now... i want mix and as i explained.. if there is a noob everybody will get him, and he will be knocked out on his own rather than with his parnter. so your playing to win for yourself, but will be put with people along the way, being friendly commanding and trushworthy willhelp win. i think this is another goos idea. so although its 2v2 your are plying for yourself and there will be a 4 way final. i dont think people quite understand the cleverness of how this will work i will make a exsample.
Honestly, I believe larger tournaments will be nearly impossible to pull off correctly with something like a flash game. There is simply a lack of communication for something so "casual" (in comparison to things such as, say, Counter Strike, StarCraft, Street Fighter, etc.).
If something like this is going to happen, everybody needs to be held accountable. For example, if they don't show for a match (barring when it has been previously talked about or worked out with the tournament administrators and such), they should be banned from future tournaments (or at least the next one). It's simple, but it works.
There should be a chat room on a separate client (an IRC, a Hamachi channel, a group Skype conversation, a group MSN conversation, etc.) since the one in-game is hardly worth using for actually communicating people.
So, essentially, I think a proper tournament for this game would be a smaller tournament (8 teams, as opposed to 16 or 32). That is, of course, for 2v2 tournaments involving specific partners. 1v1 tournaments would probably be better off as 16 players, since 32 is more difficult to manage.
An alternative, of course, is to set up a chat room or something early on. Rather than having people RSVP whenever, there should be a method of ensuring that important information can be sent and received. For all we know, somebody who says they want to play may disappear off the face of the planet, with no method of contact available. In fact, I recommend it, since people disappearing seems to happen far too often over here >.<
There is one problem inflict. If one player drops out, that is the end of the tournament, because then it won't be everyone playing everyone.
no we will have lets say 32 players and a waiting list so if somebody drops out then we have another in his place. thnx mba for that it was a flaw i had no considered since now
Also, I vote for pre-made teams you shouldn't have to lose because your teammate doesn't know how to play, I think that's as stupid as taking away a whole government (YOS last year) I think it's ridiculous to have random teams.... also, I tallied it up and I have some friends that want to speak up for 1v1 tourney, (You also told me we would have a week at least to vote 1v1 and I got back from a temp ban and it progressed to this???
well I'm sorry I can't copy paste the exact thing I want from this paragraph but I don't think I told you that it would be about a week of voting. I said earlier in this forum that I would like a certain period of time dedicated to voting, which I found three days was good enough. I also stated that they have to vote on here for their vote to count so there was proof of their vote.
As for the rest of the questions as inflict is saying the tournament will remand 2v2 random teams. This prevents friendship from being a main part of it and makes team work even more needed to be used.
As for the amount of players it all depends on how many are willing to play. I would like to have at least 16 players but I could live with 8 or 32. It just depends on how many people want to participate. The earlier you sign up the better chance you have of being in the tournament. If less then 16 people sign up the first 8 to sign up will get a place then in condensending order the rest will fill in if players decide to quit the tournament.
Rules as they stand now:
1. If you do not show up to a match without 24 hours notice that you won't be there the match will be forfeited.
2. If you miss 2 matches without notice then you will be given a warning and the next game will not count as a win or lose to you. (your partner and opponents records will still be affected.
3. If you do not show up to 3 matches without notice you will be removed from the tournament and replaced.
4. If you are afk for more then half a match it will count as a missed match unless your team wins.
5. All players will be given a schedule for their matches one week before your first match. If you can not make one of the matches contact me and I will find another time.
6. Once again in order to sign up you need to post your in game account you will be using and a backup account if one does not work. Also provided will be the timezone and/or the times on. To prevent confusion the or for the times on will be in EST. You may post the times on in EST or the timezone you live in. Please specify which one it is though.
If I missed anything I will give another post in the future. Thanks for your time and please sign up with the requirements in rule 6.
inflict, you don't get it. If someone drops out in the middle of the tournament, the only way for it to be fair is if someone of exactly the same skill level takes his place. Otherwise, some people will have easier/harder games than others if they play the new worse/better replacement.
there is no good way to replace someone if they leave the tournament. You could get stuck with a bad record or one that is better fit for you. Its just the luck of the draw and people have to deal with it.
premade teams would be a lot easier than remade teams i havent thoroughly read this thread but what about indefinite matches where there are multiple winners due to a lag or a glitch or something would it be a win a redo or a draw?
