Welcome to the Art Skills Competition 2014/2015, or "ASC" for short. It is a contest to gather willing artists from the forums to compete in a friendly test of their skills and reward the best of their work each round.
Rounds will take place each month, the last day of the month will be the final cutoff for any entries. The judging will take place the first week of the following month.

Competition Guidelines :
1. The entry must be 100% original material.
2. Each round lasts for a month; closing date is at the end of that month.
3. Submissions should be relevant to the current month's theme. (See thread's title)
4. Keep posts resolutions within reason and if you must have a larger resolution, link it to the entry.
5. Entries can be created in any medium, please note that it will be appreciated if hand drawn entries are cropped to contain only the intended work.
6. Winners will be announced by the judge of the competition at the end of each round; the results are final and non-debatable.
7. The winner of a round will have the right to choose the next theme; if this takes too long, the judge will choose one instead.
8. All participants of each round will receive a Merit for their hard work; the winner of each round will receive the Armor Games "Artist Quest"!
Round 1: Knight
This months theme will be dedicated to creating a knight representing that of Armor Games, it is a non official character to try and stir the imaginations of artists and viewers. The artist should endeavor to embody Armor Games in a Knightly character.
This entry really stuck with me as I was reviewing the submissions. A darkly reference with dead souls lying about with a whitish background left me with a desire to "study" the dead twitching bodies. (Much like samples on a slide as you are looking down a microscope.) In one fell swoop many lives were lost. Not for food nor safety, but for a much misunderstood reason that cannot be fully described with words.
A portrayal of a skeleton figure sucking out a persons life, has a dim reflection of what appears to be a dying flower below. As the life is lost the flower wilts. Tho the band around the feet of the skeleton appear to be flowing with wind as the flower still stands tall, perhaps energy is being released as the life is being transferred.
This had a lot of potential, where there is detail in the depth and tone, it would appear that it is diminished particularly around the eyes. Maybe a mask... I am unsure, but the level of black kinda throws off the depth consistency.
This entry, tho horrifying as it is in a frozen tundra. Has a feel of loneliness to it. There is the shadowy figure that sits atop the hillside as a lowly rabbit scurries below. There are spots of red coloring but it doesn't seem to be blood but vegetation of sorts. As far as the brush and shading technique's goes, they are really good and have a nice consistency as a whole.
The horror depicted in this submission is truly terrifying. As the character seems to be colorful and easy on the eyes, the feeling of serenity is weighted down as the character (of female nature) is holding what appears to be a heart. It leaves me with the image that this is a woman scorned, who has no problem dishing out punishment.
Definitely an interesting piece, could have ranked higher had the body been more in tune with the hands and head. The shading used on the hands and head really gave a good angle, making it feel like the character was reaching out and is more lifelike. Following with a body that is stitched together but seemingly flat.
I grouped both of yours together as I got the same impression from both of you. The "choose whichever one you like" response suggest to me that you are not really confident in the art that you produce. Which is unfair as I already know both of you are exceptional artist with your own style of art. Remember the goal is to create and submit art where it is of your best attempt, and only one can win.
Congrats AHomoSapien, and choose the theme for the next contest =D
anyways maybe I'll try to put ore effort into it next time. I just have a terrible problem of losing myself to redrawing something over and over until I like the sketch and the other aspects of a drawing lose out after becoming unmotivated by the drawing.
Since its been more then a week since someone posted here, I will consider, letting a runner up choose the next theme or we can brainstorm some ideas. was considering doing the next theme being Turkey
