Welcome to the Art Skills Competition 2014/2015, or "ASC" for short. It is a contest to gather willing artists from the forums to compete in a friendly test of their skills and reward the best of their work each round.
Rounds will take place each month, the last day of the month will be the final cutoff for any entries. The judging will take place the first week of the following month.
___________________________________________________________________
Competition Guidelines :
1. The entry must be 100% original material.
2. Each round lasts for a month; closing date is at the end of that month.
3. Submissions should be relevant to the current month's theme. (See thread's title)
4. Keep posts resolutions within reason and if you must have a larger resolution, link it to the entry.
5. Entries can be created in any medium, please note that it will be appreciated if hand drawn entries are cropped to contain only the intended work.
6. Winners will be announced by the judge of the competition at the end of each round; the results are final and non-debatable.
7. The winner of a round will have the right to choose the next theme; if this takes too long, the judge will choose one instead.
8. All participants of each round will receive a Merit for their hard work; the winner of each round will receive the Armor Games "Artist Quest"!
Round 1: Knight
This months theme will be dedicated to creating a knight representing that of Armor Games, it is a non official character to try and stir the imaginations of artists and viewers. The artist should endeavor to embody Armor Games in a Knightly character.
You know, this is why I designed this version to have a 3 week submission time and a 1 week judging time
I thing having 12 rounds a year is more manageable then 30. So Do not feel so bad, Things happen and thats the reason I did the time frame as such.
Just to note we are a bit off on the stated of monthly scheduling by a couple weeks, But the time frame should be similar. If I were to guess this happens because we switched judges a couple times over the past year. and waiting for winners to declare a theme. Just make sure that the submission date is 3 weeks from the day of the new declared theme. In which you get a week or so to judge. If your going to take longer than that just post an estimation to when you can get to it.
Well if zophia doesn't show up before next month I will reboot the asc with a new theme, if you guys got some suggestions post them and we can pick one
Well I had a simple one in mind for next month, Halloween was going to run it from October 1st to the 23th then judge it at the end of the month.
I know that some people want a judgment on the Dragons...@weirdlike might volunteer to do it. But he wants to pick the themes. Anyways up to you guys
All hail the Duck Dictator
If anyone doesn't mind I would like to see Halloween themed art next month, If the Halloween theme is too broad we could do costumes or jack'o lanterns or something.
We are going to be seeing a lot of Halloween art already if there is a Halloween armatar contest planned, which is not a guarantee, but it has happened last year and the year before. A more specific variation of this theme such as jack-o-lanterns, costumes, or trick-or-treating may be the best option so that there are not two art contests running at the same time with the exact same theme.
@huwbert2013 : 8.5 Pts
The smoke in the background and the expression of the dragon leaves me with an interest in the back story. Perhaps satisfaction from roasted lamb, or the excitement of taking down a bunch of puny humans. Fantastic!
@Miraidematro: 8 Pts
This is a very nice piece. The uneasy expression on the dragon leaves me speculating if it is a hatchling about to venture out.
@Cenere: 8 Pts
I like the emotion that is being projected. A lot of raw energy and power.
@Arm_Candy: 7.5
Despite the burning dying men in back. That dragon just looks so innocent how could anyone be mad.
@kegaumongo: 7.5
This piece made me chuckle, quite a reversal where the humans are chasing after the dragon, regardless of the dragons size and abilities.
@Hectichermit: 6.5
The formation of the tongue on this dragon makes him appear to be hungry... Now I am hungry. :P
@Koshionos : 5.5 Pts
Very original style, or at least I haven't seen anything like it.
@munkind: 5.5 Pts
The stance of the dragon projects a feeling of pride in the dragon. He stands on top of a perch ready to swoop down.
@gaboloth: 5.5
Definitely a piece that screams monstrous beast. I am unsure if there is some kind of history with the sign the dragon is holding. I like the level of detail in the upper half of the dragon.
@ivanxxxxxxx: 4 Pts
The eye seems to pierce through the darkness real well.
@Frank_Frooton : 4 Pts
There is a lot of action going on here. A lot of preparation went into battling the dragon, but not everything is as expected. The background ties in real nice with the head keeping the style reasonably consistent. Great work.
@StormWalker : 4 Pts
The way you worked the lines in some parts show definition really well.
@Andelhofs : 2 pts
Definitely a dragon, and boy he sure looks mad. Good work.
Some thing to take into consideration. To fit my schedule all judging will be held the first week of the month, So the very last day of the month will always be the cutoff.
I want to try some new things and will be open to comments, but there will be a theme and a sub theme. The theme will be broad and the sub theme will be more specific. Artists can choose either or both.
To keep in the spirit of competition... A score of 5 Pts or higher will get the merit, there is a total of 11.5 Pts that can be earned in the system that I am using. Also to keep in fairness (new artists VS seasoned artists), whoever scores the highest will get the quest, if in the event there is a tie both/all winners will receive the quest.
I think this might be a little confusing at first so I will start off with
@Koshionos great work! I should mention tho, that both themes need to be integrated into a single img. Otherwise you will need to choose one to be your final submittion. Sorry about the confusion.
It is not specific to a green mouse demon... if you want to do that, then it is fine. Artists can choose either or both. Use your creativity to make it work.
